The Blue Delilahs The Swing/Cabaret group, a duo of singers Melissa Ritter and Amy Dyer, backed by a jazz trio -- John Ferraro, drums; Ron Levy, piano; Lou Savage, music director and bassist/vocalist -- serves up two recent recordings of familiar songs. One of them set in a non-typical way. "We were trying to think of an odd way to do some hits from the past. Cocaine, the JJ Cale song made popular by Eric Clapton, came up as a candidate. So I said, 'Wait a minute. Listen...' and said 'Start singing Cocaine against this.' Then I started playing the bass line of Killer Joe by Quincy Jones. It was a perfect fit!" Lou Savage Nick Justice
After a 20 year recording hiatus, Nick Justice teams with LA producer/multi instrumentalist Lou Savage, bringing his tales of redemption, relationships and lost souls to life on the “Cry of the Street Prophet” "These are simple songs with catchy melodies. For those who might otherwise not be fans, I ask that you listen to any one song in its entirety, not just the first 8 bars of each. You'll be surprised where the arrangements go. They were purposely designed to take you on a mini-music-excursion." Lou Savage Click here to listen. |
The second edition of the audio book, Mastering the American AccentI met Lisa Mojsin, owner of Accurate English, an accent reduction school, during a serendipitous encounter on an airplane coming back from Sacramento. Lisa and I happened to be sitting facing each other at the front of the plane, a seat configuration you don't see much of any more. I asked her what she did, then she asked me what I did. I told her that among other things, I was a voiceover artist. She said, "Wow! Let's stay in touch. I might be needing you."
So, now we're in year 10 or so of our friendship, and into the second edition of her book, Mastering the American Accent, for which I did the audio engineering and editing as well as half the narration. Look for it here at Barron's Books or wherever else it's sold. |
