"Too Few Latino Names" Schwartzenegger Says.

California Governor, Arnold Schwartzeneger, told legislators this week in Sacramento that "the problem with California is that too many Latinos have the same last names."

Schwarzenegger told reporters that the solution to many of California's woes was to add new surnames to existing Latino names, thus expanding the limited array of last names associated with the Spanish, Latinos or Hispanics.

One suggestion was to add suffixes or prefixes to existing Spanish-derived names. Names such as Lopez, for instance, could be appended with common extensions such as O'Lopez, Von Lopez, Lopezian, Lopezman or Lopezski.

"We could finally end the confusion of identifying the enormous amounts of these kinds of people in government records and on the credit cards," Schrawartzenegger said.

Future plans for appending Asian names are in the works. In Garden Grove, California — the home of the largest Vietnamese population in America, for instance — legislation is in the works to add identifying tags or intros to names like Nguyen and Phoung.

Nguyen, for instance could be altered to a less common name like utilizing internet-style tags. An example would be Nguyen.sci, for instance, if the person were in the field of science. "Another suggested tag could be something like Nguyen-Alpha or Phuong-X which utilizes a technique called hyphen cryptography... something we use in the military to confuse the enemy," according to Pentagon spokesperson, Jane Fiddler-Marx.

Similar plans are being considered for the Chinese. "When you hear people making the wise cracks about the Chinese," said Schwartzenegger, "like, 'That guy was so fat he had more chins than the Beijing phone book...' you just want to make it all right for them. You know? I know. I am an immigrant... and as an immigrant politician, I am for change."

The California governor told us that he felt "blessed" to have had a father who had enough foresight to change their common family name from Schwartz to the more unusual "Schwarzenegger" to set them apart from all the Schwartz's in Austria. "I feel special," he said.
