At The Huntington Beach Church of Religious Science

At HBCRS, it's Debi Wheeler whos voice resounds on Sunday mornings, rattling the walls and inspiring many. This music director, sometimes pianist and all-the-time great gal calls all the shots in the music department. When she's not ridin' fence in her office, she's wranglin musicians, tryin' to whup up somethin' real good for the Sunday mornin' worshipers.

Debi is married to actor, Dennis Ure and lives practically a stone's throw from the church in Huntington Beach. She rarely sings any song in its original key, and so, the band transposes everything, always. They, at this point, have no idea what the original keys are to any of her songs. It keeps them on their toes. In fact, the sheet music is usually so scribbled up with alternate chords in different keys, that when it's time for the performance, the band doesn't remember which key is the key du jour.

Speaking of toes, it's been said that Lawrence Welk, who had a strong Polish accent once told his band: "Boys der are gonna be some pigwigs here in da studio today, so pee on yer toes."
